How do you maintain exposed aggregate?

Maintaining exposed aggregate is extremely easy and can be done in 2 simple steps: 1. Wash. Start by giving your aggregate concrete a high-pressure wash to remove any mould, moss and loose dirt. For more stubborn areas you may need to apply a mild acid and scrub with either a broom or brush.

2. Seal. Ensure that all the above has been removed as they may cause an uneven finish or gaps. Be vigilant in choosing what type of sealant you are going to use as this will affect how your aggregate is going to look.

What is the difference between honed aggregate and exposed aggregate?

Exposed aggregate and honed aggregate are both made of the same materials explaining why they both are available in the same stones and colour variations. Exposed aggregate has a coarse texture produced by letting the stones and other materials being visible on the top of the concrete layer. Honed aggregate however is ground down so it feels smooth and comfortable to be walked on barefoot.
